My personal favorite method is to watch my student do the work in order to identify precisely where they are going wrong, and then correct or expand their understanding. I prefer not to "lecture, then grade"; instead, I use a more collaborative process.

I also identify which prerequisite topics need to be refreshed, if necessary. Unfortunately, this is often the case, as fundamental topics are not typically retaught in school, and a poor foundation can make progression very difficult. Read less
