My name is Dr. James, and I have worked as a college professor and, more recently, as a freelance writer, editor, and tutor. I was born in Jersey City, grew up in Bergen County, and moved to Philadelphia where I attended the University of Pennsylvania (earning a B.A. in Philosophy) and Temple University, receiving an M.F.A. in Screenwriting. Subsequently, I moved to New York City where I lived for 16 years and earned my Ph.D. in American Studies from NYU. As an American Studies Ph.D., I have over twenty years of college/university teaching experience in subjects ranging from English Composition, Business Writing, American History, and Literature. I am a published scholarly writer and freelance writer. I am also a passionate creative writer, engaged in writing short and long fiction as well as poetry. Furthermore, I work as a freelance editor and writer, possessing expert skills in grammar, punctuation, and proofreading. For the last 10 years, I have tutored and mentored students in their English writing, speaking, and reading skills. I also teach History and Philosophy to small groups of advanced students.

Hello and Welcome! My name is Mr. Jones or Mr. J and I am an experienced English and History teacher and tutor. My style is very direct and is student-centered with a good deal of questions and primary source materials so that you the student can engage not just the lesson but also be aware of how you learn! World History and Mythology are perhaps my most favorite subjects, but any topic is fair game! I am licensed social studies teacher, so I can help with those subjects as well--and can even offer some valuable insight to the ACT and SAT exams.

I grew up and completed my education in Ohio. I received my bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Akron and am working towards my bachelor's degree in Theology at the University of Belgrade. After completing my bachelor's degree in Theology, I plan to enroll in a Master's program specializing in Depression and Anxiety. I have been tutoring young children, teens, and adults for the last 8 years, specializing in English (reading, comprehension, writing, and vocabulary) while also providing training in Psychology and History. As a teacher, I strive for understanding. The most important thing for a student is to understand what they are learning. While memorization is important, I find that taking the time to break down all the parts of a problem and learning slowly but efficiently helps the student retain more knowledge. I help students become confident English speakers who can read, write, and converse in American English. Within three months, students will make marked progress in comprehension, speaking, and reading. I teach lower-intermediate to upper-intermediate students. I have taught English to foreign students in the American classroom and online to Chinese students living in China. I currently live outside of Atlanta, Georgia, and teach all classes online. We begin by using the dynamic CEFR-aligned curriculum called Crystal Clear ESL. Primary students will use a highly interactive online platform/classroom created for engagement and fun classes. Gamification is usually part of each lesson. Even the reward games encourage English speaking from the students.
