Questions for You

Q: What teaching methods do you use to help students learn Math concepts and solve problems?

Students are motivated by using investigations, puzzles, open ended problems and games. These make up most of my lessons, however I am flexible and will direct teach when necessary. We use reflection strategies also, for students to consolidate their learning strategies.

Q: Do you have experience with online teaching platforms or virtual tutoring, and what is your preferred method of communication with students?

I successfully use Zoom to learn with students from ages 6-11. This is the most convenient for students to learn in the comfort of their own homes and to fit their busy schedules. We use online resources as we would face to face. I also make sure to have movement breaks throughout our lesson to help students to focus.

Q: What Math topics or concepts are you particularly skilled in teaching, and how do you keep up to date with changes in the curriculum?

I have 14 years experience teaching PYP in IB World Schools. At the moment I focus on maths learning but also have taught PYP English. I have kept up to date with PYP practices throughout my teaching career through professional development.

Q: How do you communicate with parents about their child's progress and any challenges they may be facing in learning Math?

My lessons are highly personalised to each student's needs. Each lesson is designed individually for each student, so we can develop their areas of need. I will chat with each parent before starting learning with their child so they can share concerns and observations with me. We can then work together to best help their child. I will send parents a learning summary after each lesson so they know exactly how their child is progressing.

Q: Do you provide any additional resources or materials to supplement your lessons, such as practice exercises or online tutorials?

Parents are invited to chat with me about this.

Q: What is your approach to homework assignments, and how do you ensure students understand the concepts covered in class?

Through regular reflections, discussions and teacher judgement, I am experienced in assessing students' understanding of concepts within our lessons.

Q: What steps do you take to ensure that your teaching approach is compatible with the student's learning style?

With over twenty years of experience classroom teaching in schools, I ensure I adapt my teaching approach to best suit the students' learning style. This might include using maths manipulatives, making learning visible, open ended or closed ended problem solving, space for students to reflect, ask questions and build their own understanding. I also ensure regular Movement Breaks, if students want, to help maintain focus and energy.

Q: Do you have experience working with students with learning disabilities or special needs, and how do you adapt your teaching methods to accommodate their needs?

I have experience teaching a range of students in schools, including SEN. I will provide personalised and learning to every student and adapt as required to help all students access the curriculum.
