I love mathematics and believe every student has the ability to understand and do well in the subject. In my experience, it is generally a small misunderstanding or gap prior knowledge that prevents students from doing well. All that is required, is to find the explanation that makes sense to the individual student. I have had students fail a grade one year and the next year achieve an 80% average in the subject when moved to my class. I am situated in Cape Town (South Africa). A student once wrote in an essay to a colleague that unlike other math teachers, I never give up or tell someone they cannot do something. I will always keep finding a new way of explaining math until it makes sense. My method requires students to make the mistakes in the contact sessions so that we can remedy the problem areas in order to not be repeated in tests or exams.

I am Thomas Magaya based in Witbank, Mpumalanga. I have a wealth of experience(20years) teaching Mathematics and quite familiar and comfortable with CAPS from grade 6 level to grade 11. As such I am able to diagnose learning difficulties and analyse gaps and give appropriate remedial and corrective action and boost the confidence of the learners in the subject. I also offer assistance in Natural Sciences and Physical Sciences up to grade 10. I take consideration of individual differences and give tasks appropriate to one's developmental stage thus allowing individuals to proceed at their own pace. I am flexible and allow for exploration of alternative approaches if a wall is hit and progress looks minimal. Most importantly, I encourage learners to set their own goals.

Having been through the Scottish school system, I know first hand how difficult High School exams can be. I currently hold a 2:1 BSc (Hons) degree from the University of St Andrews, and I am continuing studying at the University of Edinburgh. During High School, I received straight As and took Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology to Advanced Higher level. I was awarded prizes for highest S5 attainment, as well as top in the country for Higher Chemistry and Advanced Higher Physics. I have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a true passion for teaching others and sharing knowledge. Doing this not only gets the student very familiar and experienced with what to expect in the exam but also flags up areas of weakness. These areas are then worked on specifically until full competence is shown. This means a typical lesson is made up of half general past paper, and half specific topic. Being a current serving GCSE Maths teacher, I have a wealth of up to date resources and curriculum/exam knowledge allowing me to focus tuition on exactly what is required to maximise results.
