I encourage students to journal or write in a diary everyday. This develops their writing "muscles" that can be used in more formal writing. Secondly, I use a variety of topics to encourage a vast incorporation of vocabulary, collocations and expressions. Thirdly, I encourage reading and discussion of these topics to get formats from other writers.
I like to take mini lessons and apply them to a topic of interest. Games are the best way to learn spelling and punctuation has to be applied through writing homework. A little bit goes a long way.
I use materials that are interesting and at the appropriate level of the learner. I use articles as well as books and novels when it is decided upon as a plan.
We first dicuss the various techniques and apply them in simple applications. Then I increase the difficulty incrementally.
I model the pronunciation and through repetition, a student usually gets it. For me, the goal is to be understood. If the student, on the other hand, wants to sound like a native speaker in English, then that is what I aim for as well. I apply the level of accuracy that the student wants.
We first analyze the various techniques and study others with similar projects. Then we form a plan and exectute that plan until the degree of efficiency is established.
I can explain a grammar rule, of course, but the simplest way to understand grammar is using it in real life and applying it naturally during the coursework.
Centering the lesson around the plan that we create at the beginning of the lessons is the best strategy to avoid boring lessons. I use a variety of materials that stem from interests, hobbies and relationships.

I encourage students to create a journal to be able to jot down information that they will come across as they progress through the preparation process. This way, the days leading up the exam are less stressful because they have a record of all of the hard work that went into the months and weeks leading up to that final test date.
Ensuring that the lesson is interesting comes from gauging a students' mood and learning goals. Working on the short term goals will lead them to accomplishing their long term goals and this is achieved through assessments, both formal and informal.
I offer advice and strategies to be implemented during classes and can be printed off and used as a reference before the exam.
Homework is possible if needed.
I have 3 years experience in helping students with both IELTS and TOEFL.
I look for a 90% accuracy mark, give or take a few points. As long as a student is reading relatively fluently, we continue. If not, we adjust to meet the fluency level of the student.
I have materials that can be used and printed off at home for reference later.
We practice them during class and use homework for opportunites for growth.
