Writing is a form of expression. In order to express your thoughts clearly, you must be able to form your thought first. I often teach my students to formulate their thought and speak it clearly before they write it down. With writing, there is always a structure. Much like building blocks, the thought must be planned and it must be discussed in order for them to lay it down on paper. If they can't say it properly, they won't be able to write it correctly. This is why integrating reading, grammar and comprehension skills is crucial for young writers in order for them to apply what they know effectively in writing.
Grammar is the structure of any language. If they are able to have a solid understanding of this foundation then they can easily form their own sentences and thoughts. I believe it is best to start with vocabulary and spelling, when young students have a strong database of words under their belt, they can form thoughts and string words together to make sentences. Expressing themselves with the right words and being able to use it effortlessly is the first goal. Once they master spelling and writing, they can comfortably practice their usage creatively along with proper punctuation. A good paragraph is like a building. Checking their mistakes as they work is important so they can easily correct themselves through proofreading.
My approach is patient and comforting. The student must tackle the right material that fits their level and gently challenge them to move their goalpost. Students must be able to feel and observe their own improvements in order to feel encouraged with their own progress. Reading with them is crucial in developing self confidence so that they may feel they are capable of practicing it on their own wether it be in phonics or in skilled early readers. Picking up vocabulary as they read is like adding to their building blocks and I believe in being able to discuss what they are reading in order for them to fully understand their comprehension work.
When they analyze any literature they must be able to form their own opinions and judgement on what they are reading. I would ask them to think about the purpose of the character's actions and find the reasoning behind events in the story. I would challenge them to use their inference to predict outcomes as well as any underlying facts they may pick up along the way. We will discuss hidden meanings and messages when reading so as to understand situations and form conclusions based on these findings together.
Modeling pronunciation properly for them is important for students to pick up the nuances in speech. Some sounds may be very similar to another. For example the short e and short i and long e are often mis- pronounced early in phonics. Being able to have them listen to the distinction is key to them knowing the difference. Practice and consistency is also key for them in order to apply enunciation with certain words. As with reciting a poem, practice makes perfect.
Having them present a chosen piece in confidence requires a lot of practice and consistent encouragement. Taking a video and recording for them to review as they progress is also very helpful for them to see their progress in real time. Reciting it myself and having them listen to the recordings to practice aids them in memorization and practice. Body language as well as intonation are also very important factors when presenting their speech.
Breaking down the rules in steps will be easier for young learners to understand. Once they master the rules step by step they can apply these rules effectively. Using songs and simple chants to remember these rules is quite enjoyable for students.
Lack of motivation sometimes stems from a lack of connection to the language. Being able to relate is key. Having student's struggle is due to their stress in not being able to understand and they will often feel unmotivated when they feel as though it is futile for them to try. Often, I will engage in their own language in order to help them understand. Using funny or relatable media like books or cartoon characters will help them with their own confidence and engage their curiosity in the language.

Remain comforting, non judgemental and encourgaing. Making the student feel at ease and having a friendly rapport is key to keeping the student comfortable. Laughter and an enjoyable experience is important to relieve their nerves from any pressure.

Using sample pieces and real examples is important for teaching writing styles especially with the language in professional emails. Practicing topics and practicing imaginary scenarios in order for them to try conversations in real time.
Imitation is often always a great means to learning. In order for them to apply what they have learned they must learn how to copy the masters. They can be inspired by things they enjoy and use that in order to create their own works.
Showing them books and topics that they are most interested in will encourage them more.
