I make sure students understand concepts rather than just memorizing formulas or answers.
While I do not yet have direct experience with online teaching platforms or viral tutoring, I am tech-savvy and eager to adapt. I’m comfortable learning new tools like Zoom, Google Meet, or virtual whiteboards and teams. My preferred method of communication with students is through WhatsApp for quick check-ins and updates, and face-to-face sessions where possible, as I believe direct interaction builds stronger understanding and trust.
I am skilled mostly in algebra and calculus, and having just finished high school keeps me up to date with the current curriculum and its changes, as I have just undergone it myself.
I keep parents updated with regular progress feedback via WhatsApp or quick chats after sessions. I share both strengths and any challenges, and suggest ways we can support the student together
I have old test papers and well as worksheets that helped me in school, as well as examples from all different curricula to help broaden their understanding.
Homework assignments are an excellent opportunity to practice maths and should be done to further understanding rather than just completing it. Homework assignemts help students undertstand where they are going wrong in topics covered in class and can help them master the topics.
To make sure my teaching clicks with how a student learns, I'd first try to get a sense of their preferred ways of taking in information – are they more visual, auditory, or hands-on? Then, I'd tweak my lessons to include a mix of these approaches so everyone has a way to connect with the material.
When it comes to students with learning differences or special needs, yes, I've definitely had experience. I'd work closely with them and any support teams to understand their specific needs and then adapt my methods, maybe breaking down tasks into smaller steps, using visual aids, or offering different ways to show what they've learned.
