Hi friends! I just finished the first year of my Bachelor of Education at York University in Toronto, and loved it! I have always enjoyed working with children and have a passion for learning and education. I know that the students of today are our future and we must nurture and encourage their growth in a positive way. This is what motivates me to become an educator. I most enjoy teaching English/ESL and would describe my teaching style as student-centred, fun, inclusive, and flexible. I am extremely patient and will break down lessons in ways that work for my students. My main goal as an educator is to teach students to feel confident in their knowledge and abilities and be able to work independently while developing a critical awareness of themselves and the world around them. I have worked with students with special needs and am passionate about promoting inclusion and diversity in all learning environments. Students' well-being is my priority, and I understand that life can be complicated sometimes. So, while I am here to teach, I am also here to support you mentally and emotionally and will understand if things come up. I was born in Singapore and grew up in Indonesia, where I was educated in an international school for 18 years. I have been passionate about english since high school, so I have chosen to pursue a career in English education ever since. I am a PhD candidate in humanities at York University, and have taught English, social sciences, academic writing, public speaking, and drama for over twenty years to hundreds of students between the ages of 15-65. I can help with all aspects of academic research and writing, as well as presentation and public speaking skills. While working as a Writing Instructor for two years at York`s Writing Centre, I assisted individual students with interpreting assignments, organizing research notes, getting started at writing, proper documentation styles, and editing their own work. I also taught several group workshops and lectured to large undergraduate classrooms on the fundamentals and processes of academic essay writing, and avoiding plagiarism. Under my tutelage, students have gone from earning D grades to earning A grades in humanities subjects. After years of marking papers as a Course Director and as a Teaching Assistant, I know exactly what professors are looking for when evaluating papers and exams.
