あなたへの質問

Q: How do you assess a student's artistic proficiency level?

Each student goes at their own pace...I look for improvement in their basic skills & understanding of the fundamentals. I also encourage them to look at their artwork from when they 1st started lessons and compare about a month or so later to view improvement so we can focus on where they still need more focus.

Q: What techniques do you teach students to create various types of art such as drawing, painting, and sculpture?

Ways of seeing, color theory, composition, perspective, deoth of field, positive/negative space, shading & creating dimension. I also work with a wide variety of mediums including pencil, charcoal, pen & ink, oils, watercolors, acrylics, basic Photoshop, collage and crafting.

Q: How do you teach students to use different art materials such as pencils, paint, and clay?

Using a variety of materials expands their creativity and allows them to experiment to see which materials they have an affinity for and would like to continue working with. It's also good practice to apply the foundations of art to various materials to get the feel of how to work with them.

Q: What strategies do you use to teach students to create different art styles such as realism, impressionism, and abstract art?

Experimentation and some basic art history so students can learn where different art styles came from and what thier meanings and inportance is to the arts and their own creativity and form of expression.

Q: How do you teach students to use color theory in their artwork?

I provide them with a color chart that shows primary, secondary and tertiary colors as well as how to mix tints, tones and shades. I discuss how colors mix together to form other colors and the moods they can convey.

Q: What strategies do you use to help students prepare a portfolio for art school or professional opportunities?

We'll customoze their work to meet the needs of the specific school or opportunity they're building a portfolio for and go over each work with critiques to make the selected pieces the best fit to be included. We'll discuss all guidelines and regulations set for the portfolio's contents.

Q: How do you help students to understand and implement different art theories and movements?

We'll discuss different movements in art history and their meanings and how they can be applied to the student's own work. I'll also suggest practice techniques they can try for art styles they're most interested in.

Q: What strategies do you use to teach students to create and use digital art such as graphic design and animation?

I taught myself Photoshop so I know how to explain it in basic terms they can understand. I've also taken graphic design courses during my education and currently do freelance design work so I can help students understand the business side of art and how to look for and apply for jobs and art oppornuties, as i'm also an art marketing coach.

Q: What strategies do you use to teach students to create and use performance art and conceptual art?

While I'm not a performance artist, I am educated about it and would encourage anyone wanting to incorporate that into ther work to do so and offer critiques and suggestions. I currently have a couple of students doing more conceptual work and I've also helped them fine tune their pieces and helped them find opportunities for their artwork to be seen.
