Having graduated from NUS with a degree in English Literature (Hons) in 2016, I have been tutoring for three years full-time (five years as an undergraduate part-time). On average, my students have improved by two grades. I only provide tuition on a pay-per-lesson basis. I am typically described as a highly energetic and motivated tutor who will source useful teaching materials and ensure that students genuinely engage in class, instead of being spoon-fed. Although I am not professionally trained by the government (not MOE-trained), I consider myself a serious and goal-oriented tutor. I personally believe that education should not simply be about attaining straight As, although that is definitely crucial. It is also about viewing the world through an insightful lens, which is what literature can do. Education is about cultivating critical and independent thinking and encouraging students to find their own voice.
