Hi! I am a current Master's student with a specialisation in Global History and International Relations. The subject of my bachelor studies was also History and International Relations. I have studied international history with a specific focus on European and Asian histories. As a student of history all my life, I love this subject and specially love the idea of teaching it in a way that does it justice. I am a patient teacher who is very passionate about the subject she teaches. I am also very keen on bringing history more relevance by connecting the current world issues and conflict to its historical relevance. My focus in history has been to understand the impact of history on the current world affairs. Specifically in regard to transnational coorporation, the interaction between different countries, cultural exchange and its impact on history as well as myths of history. I am an Oxford masters history graduate, specialising in British history, empires and globalisation. My undergraduate dissertation focused on the afterlives of Imperial heroes in former African colonies through a study of their material culture, and was recognised as the highest marked dissertation in its field that year. In 2022 I completed History MSc in Empires, Colonialism and Globalisation at Balliol College, Oxford. I have been tutoring since 2016, primarily in History and English Language & Literature. In 2018 I taught in Nepal, and in 2019 in China, at Harrow School Beijing. From 2019 to 2022 I worked for an agency based in Beijing that specialises in helping students into the top rated schools and universities in the UK and US. Many of my students have achieved places at schools such as Eastbourne College, Wycombe Abbey, and Cheltenham, as well as Russel Group universities. Furthermore, having taught English Language and Literature for the last three years I have a particularly strong knowledge of key exam texts, particularly the Shakespearean plays. I have been tutoring for many years in a variety of countries, with students both struggling with their work, and those seeking to excel even further. I am currently studying in a distance education PhD program in the Department of History and Ethnography at the University of Debrecen. My name is Blaise, I am a qualified teacher from South Africa, currently working at a (soon to be) IB accredited International School called “Kunming World Youth Academy”. I received my BA Humanities degree and PGCE qualifications from Stellenbosch University. Although I have loved working in China and my job, as well as the school, I feel the location of the school has been an increasing challenge for me. I am dedicated, hard-working, and eager to learn. I believe that for the teacher; teaching and learning are synonymous. I am continuously looking for new ways to develop my lessons, which I know need to continuously be adapted and changed to cater to the diversity within a class. This is one of the many reasons I resonate with the values and principles promoted by IB, which I why I hope to instil my learners with the eagerness to be: inquirers, knowledgable, caring, balanced, reflective, communicators, principled, and risk-takers.
