My name is Joy and I am a third-year Economics and Statistics student at UCT. I love math because I am good at it, but I have had my fair share of struggles with the subject. I understand how frustrating it can get, especially because it is so repetitive. So, my job as a tutor is to help you understand how to do things as opposed to memorizing, which is where most students go wrong. My hope is that the students I interact with learn to love the subject as much as I do, which makes it easier for them to study as it starts to feel less like a chore and more of something they are willingly participating in. My history with tutoring goes as far back as high school. I was a teacher's aide, which means I interacted with students one-on-one to help them identify their problem areas and how to resolve them. I have also been tutoring grade 6-12 Cambridge IGCSE and CAPS math since February 2024, so I have a general understanding of what students will be tested on in their tests and exams.

At Philippine Normal University, I completed 21 units of my Master's degree, majoring in Mathematics. During my time at the university, I learned a great deal and constantly challenged myself to keep learning as everything was new to me. With strong determination, I was able to adapt to the new environment. Currently, I have fulfilled all the academic requirements at National Teachers College for my Master's degree majoring in Mathematics. I always encourage my students to appreciate the importance of Mathematics. I also encourage my students to ask questions whenever they do not understand a lesson. This approach leads to a better appreciation of the topic and of the subject as a whole.
