I am a qualified teacher with SACE. I teach Physics and Mathematics. I was not always good at Math and Science. Through perseverance, we can overcome challenges. It looks impossible until it is done.

I am a former international school student born in Hong Kong and raised between Hong Kong, Beijing, and New York. After graduating from Columbia University with a degree in Political Science and Economics, I joined the Teach For America program (against the wishes of my parents who had hoped I'd go into finance) and taught a variety of subjects including mathematics, chemistry, and biology. I also ran my school's after-school SAT tutoring program. As an educator, my background is in high school special education and middle school general education. However, where my strength lies is in my ability to help students understand their goals and how best to achieve them. I empathize with the high pressure and results-oriented environment students have to perform in, especially in Hong Kong, and try my best to approach all my lessons with this in mind. I have spent the last 5 years in a remedial school teaching many learners with many different learning difficulties. I know my way around an IEP and am able to easily create one. I understand how to read an Ed Psych and scholastic reports in order to adjust my teaching to best suit the needs of the learners under my care.

Thank you for visiting my profile. I’m a Primary Special Needs Educator with 3 years of experience working in mainstream schools. I have worked across all key stages and with a variety of needs including autism (including Pathological Demand Avoidance), ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and global development delay. I can work on curriculum subjects as well as fine motor skills, social skills, and memory. My students and I have had many significant successes, the most significant being when I helped a child become a fluent reader after only reading CVC words. Other successes include improvements in times tables, number ability, comprehension, and spelling skills. Above all the academic successes my students and I have had, I am well-liked by my students and they are always happy. I have worked across all key stages in a variety of schools and in some cases in two different key stages at the same time, providing support, teaching on a 1-to-1 basis, in group settings, and occasionally with whole classes. I have worked with children with a variety of needs including global developmental delay, Autism Spectrum, ADHD, Dyspraxia, and Dyslexia, but I am particularly passionate about working with students who have special needs and challenging behavior. I have been praised by my mentors and Vice Principal for my work in this area. In my current post, I have gained experience using PIVATs 5 and Klips through discussion and offering my input for planning lessons independently. During this time, I have also developed my ability to teach phonics and deliver phonics interventions, working with multiple phase groups at once using various resources such as Letters and Sounds and Read Write Inc. I have also developed my knowledge in various teaching methods such as modeling, touch counting, and Kagan strategies. As an education professional and SEND (Special Education Needs and Disabilities) parent, I am deeply committed to seeing learners thrive. My passion for understanding neurodevelopmental differences has led me to pursue further qualifications in Neuropsychology. My goal is to bridge the gap between diagnosis, education, therapeutic, and alternative intervention by creating opportunities that empower parents, train educators, and encourage innovative practices in healthcare in addition to building up my learners.
