My approach in teacher writing is to follow simple words and trace lines to make them get used to the shapes and form.
To help my student I would let them hear and read short stories. thus could be a fun and engaging way of learning grammar.
I would let them watch stories and read it with them. Try to ask them questions to recall what the story is all about.
