My name is Yvonne and I look forward to the opportunity to teach your child! I am a certified teacher who taught in the public school system for twenty years. I possess New York State certification in common branches (nursery through grade 6) and in the visual arts (grade K through grade 12). I also have a master’s degree in education. Although the majority of my teaching experience is at the elementary level, I have also taught middle and high school level students.
I worked in a variety of capacities throughout my lengthy teaching career including, but not limited to, an elementary grade level class entitled, “Literacy Through the Visual Arts,” using an original curriculum that I created as an instructional guide. I reinforced English Language Arts skills by integrating visual arts instruction.
Another position I held was entitled Academic Intervention Specialist for grade K through grade 3. I had the great advantage of being exposed to various reading programs with the responsibility of selecting the ones I considered most effective and reporting my professional assessment to the school administration. I worked with small groups of students which allowed for the use of intensive instructional strategies for reading and math.
Another rewarding position I held was that of a NYC Dept. of Education Mentor for my school district. I provided training to first year teachers which included writing observation evaluations with improvement strategies, planning and conducting professional development workshops, and being a much needed supportive friend.
I currently work as a professional tutor with students of varied grades and skill levels. Read less
