My name is Aakash and I graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a major in astrophysics. I am based in San Ramon and also offer remote tutoring services. During my time in school, I had several teachers who taught various subjects. Some teachers understood the material but were poor communicators, relying solely on the textbook. Others simply recited the material without engaging students, and some only provided the minimum required for passing without truly facilitating learning. The teachers I respected were the ones who helped us understand the course materials and noticed when students were struggling, offering assistance rather than leaving them behind. They made classes interesting and inspired me to consider material from fresh perspectives, rather than just repeating it in a different manner. These teachers taught me that finding the best learning system for oneself is more important than strictly following the methods in a book. As a mentor, I aim to instill this mindset in my students, helping them break free from traditional teaching approaches. I have a year of tutoring experience in the ACE program at my university, tutoring calculus and basic physics. In group sessions of 5-10 people and smaller sessions with 2-3 students, I assisted struggling students in achieving As. I have also tutored students in algebra and precalculus. My tutoring style includes ensuring that everyone comprehends the material before progressing, boosting their self-esteem by demonstrating that success is achievable with hard work. I walk through problems with students, assign individual or group work, and provide practice problems and additional resources for further practice.
