I begin by reviewing previous topics, then introduce new ideas slowly. I give examples, guide students through practice questions, and end each lesson with a simple summary. This helps students stay organized and confident. I also support students with homework, assignments, and exam preparation. I teach students how to understand questions, manage time, and avoid common mistakes. I do not only give answers. I explain the full process so students can learn and improve on their own. As a virtual tutor, I value professionalism, respect, and honesty. I create a safe and positive learning environment. I respect student privacy and learning needs at all times. I love teaching chemistry because it explains how the world works. Helping students understand a topic they once feared gives me great satisfaction. I am a 4th-year Chemistry student at UBC (Vancouver) engaged in quantum cryogenic chemistry research. My appreciation and passion for chemistry has grown exponentially over time and I want to spread that knowledge to the bright young minds of the future. I went from almost dropping all my science courses in high school to specializing in Chemistry at university, so I understand the discouraging mindset that plagues many kids. I used to tutor elementary school children in high school in a range of subjects with a focus on making the content enjoyable and engaging for the students. At university, I have had the opportunity to experience all ends of the chemistry teaching spectrum, so I have learned the markers of a poor teacher and a very effective teacher. I consolidate all of this information to be the most effective teacher I can be. I have also learned that it is crucial to be dynamic as a teacher and listen to students' feedback and adjust the teaching plan accordingly. Let's learn some chemistry!

I have been teaching continuously for 36 years in the UK in secondary schools and in Further Education Colleges. I have taught on a wide range of courses such as BTEC, GCSE, A levels, International Baccalaureate (IB), Foundation year of the degree programmes in Applied Sciences and Access courses to adults returning to education later on in life. The subject specialism is Chemistry and Combined Sciences, is Biology, Physics up to GCSE level. I tutor in my home and online and my students have successfully progressed to university studying a wide range of science related degree programmes such as medicine, dentistry, biomedical sciences, pharmacy etc as well as health sciences programmes such as midwifery, OPD, nursing and many others. My teaching styles vary according to individual needs if my learners and pace is also adjusted to meet this requirement. I have access to many resources both as hard copies and online. In my home I have a study area that is open and is dedicated to teaching. I always do an initial consultation free of charge with the student with or without the presence of the parent and I am fully vetted as I have a DBS which shows the student can be sure he or she is working in a safe secure environment.

I qualified with an Honours degree in Chemistry from Southampton University in 1985 before proceeding to Durham University for my PhD in synthetic organic chemistry with electrochemistry. After several years doing polymer research in British Industry, I switched to the area of patents, gaining a scholarship to do so, before graduating from Queen Mary and Westfield College with a Masters in the Management of IP law. I then qualified as an Australian and New Zealand Patent and Trade Mark Attorney (I moved abroad) and was responsible for all of my employer's chemical patent portfolio. Having spent years training fresh graduates in areas of IP law to get them through the qualifying exams, I am now looking to wind down my career as a Patent Attorney and to move back into chemistry full time as a tutor to train up the next generation and essentially anyone who is struggling.
