Hello, my name is Shannon Holmes. I consider myself to be both a professional educator and an ice skating specialist, as, in addition to holding an English literature teaching degree, I coach all aspects of skating: speedskating, figure skating and hockey. My experiences in coaching help me to relate well to people of all ages, to assess ability, breakdown and scaffold skills to effectively raise the athlete or student to a level of extreme proficiency. I believe it deepens my skill as an educator. I have many goals that are part of my personal teaching philosophy, but the most important of these is to be able to motivate and engage my students in a love of reading, writing and literature. I will also strive to foster a lifelong love of learning, as that is a skill and attitude that will take students far into the future, beyond the boundaries of their academic careers. I believe that the ultimate goal of tutoring is to help my students gain skill continuously, until they need less and less assistance from me, so they can internalize these skills and be able to read and write, interpret text, and express themselves without further help. I hope to be able to work with you in the near future; to help you excel in the arts of the English language.

I enjoy helping students reach their full potential and tutoring is one avenue that allows me to do that! Working with schoolage students has been a longtime passion of mine. It is fulfilling to see how far students can go with the right attitude, encouragement, and focus. I teach mainly English and Afrikaans at home-language and additional language level for any age group. I have experience working with children with learning disabilities. My post-graduate research is based on Linguistic Anthropology, looking at multi- and monolingualism in South Africa. I am based in Vredehoek in Cape Town, where I offer lessons from my home and online. I am an experienced tutor, employed freelance and at UCT teaching languages. Hello there! My name is Mark. I am a former primary school teacher with experience across all year groups, based predominantly in the northern areas of Manchester. As such, I am confident across all subjects across the primary curriculum, though my specialism is all things English-related. I will endeavour to create a lively yet focused learning experience for the student. I have a very laid-back, patient style, developed through my time working across a number of challenging environments. I understand the essence of building a strong rapport with the student, even before any learning has taken place. Hi! I would love to tutor any student who may struggle with reading comprehension and connecting vocabulary while reading. I have very high success in this area over the last 5 years. It's my passion to teach students to love reading, or at least enjoy and understand what they are reading. I tell my "kids" at school that reading comprehension is the key to accomplishing anything they desire. Just a little about myself: I am a big animal lover. I also love sports, spending time outside, and of course reading.
