I’m a British violin teacher who studied in London. With over 10 years of teaching experience spread across Hong Kong, the Middle East and the UK, I have a proven record of ABRSM exam success. My students have passed 100% of their exams, with 90% of results either Distinction or Merit! I teach students from beginner level up to Grade 8 and Diploma. I also have experience of teaching viola up to Grade 8 and Music Theory up to Grade 5. I’m based on Hong Kong island and I’m willing to travel to your home.

Gabriela began her violin studies at the age of 11 at the Centro de Cultura Musical (Famalicão, Portugal). In 2014, she started studying at Codarts University of the Arts with Olga Martinova, and later at Fontys University of Fine and Performing Arts with Jenny Spanoghe, from which she graduated. Gabriela has participated in master classes with Agustin Leon Ara, Ani Schnarch, Jela Spitkova, Isabelle van Keulen, Frederique Saeijs, and Daniel Bard. In 2017/2018, Gabriela was appointed section leader of the Euregio Jeugd Orkest, with whom she toured Austria’s main concert halls during the summer. As an orchestral musician, she has worked with Euregio Kamerorkest, Orchestra XXI, Kamerata Zuid, and the multiple Grammy Award-winning Metropole Orkest. Gabriela is also an active chamber musician with the Arthema Quartet. Despite its brief existence, the quartet has already performed in venues such as Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, and the Toonzaal in 's-Hertogenbosch. The final of the Willem II Chamber Music Competition took place in the latter hall, where the quartet won the Audience Prize in 2018. The Arthema Quartet also received both the Audience Prize and the Jury Prize at the Asten Classic Award in 2019.

About My Tutoring I provide 1-to-1 violin tutoring for players of all levels—from beginners taking their first steps to advanced musicians refining their artistry. I am thoroughly familiar with both ABRSM and Trinity College London requirements and hold an ABRSM Grade 8 Practical (Violin) and a Licentiate of Trinity College London (LTCL) Performance Diploma with High Distinction. My students include orchestra members at both Secondary and Junior College levels, many of whom are part of prestigious school orchestras that have achieved Distinction at the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF). My Teaching Approach I specialize in performance improvement and public performance preparation, helping students not only play technically accurate pieces but bring them to life with musicality and expression. Music is more than hitting the right notes—it's about telling a story and connecting with your audience. I focus on building strong technical foundations that enable rapid and sustained progression. Students typically see significant improvement within just a few months, developing skills that benefit them throughout their musical journey. My approach emphasizes both right-hand technique (often overlooked) and left-hand technique, helping students develop confidence and overall ability as violinists. Beyond technical skills, I guide students to critically evaluate their own intonation, rhythm, tone quality, and phrasing—essential tools for independent practice and faster progression as musicians. Benj learned to play the violin at the age of 10. He studied with four violin teachers before moving on to finish his Bachelor’s Degree in Violin Performance at the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music, and Master’s Degree in Music Performance at the Philippine Women’s University College of Music. He performs occasionally for the Manila Symphony Orchestra and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as the string group The Manila String Machine. He recently received training in teaching the Suzuki Violin Method under renowned Suzuki pedagogues Dr. Lan Ku Chen and Prof. Christophe Bossuat. Benj currently teaches the violin at the Centro Escolar University Conservatory of Music (Manila Campus) and the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.

I completed my BA (Hons.) in Music in 2012 under the guidance of Dr. Letty Poon and Mr. Stephen Yam. My cello journey began in 2004, during which I participated in various local orchestras and ensembles as both a section soloist and tutti member. I was an active member of the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra from 2013 to 2022. Driven by strong curiosity, I enrolled at the Chicago School of Violin Making (2015–2018). During my time in the U.S., I furthered my cello studies with Mr. Steven Houser. I also performed as a cello tutti member for The Savoyaires (Evanston, IL) and the Park Ridge Civic Orchestra (IL), and served as principal cellist for the North Shore Chamber Orchestra. Believing that modern cellists should be versatile in all styles of music—from Baroque to Cantopop—I incorporate a wide range of repertoire in my lessons. My goal is to help students become well-rounded cellists!

I am a University College London BSc graduate and have been practicing the violin since the age of 6. I achieved the DipABRSM qualification in 2013 and have served as the orchestra concertmaster at Uppingham School and during my first year at UCL.
