I make Math interesting, accessible and useful.
I earned a masters in teaching mathematics at the secondary level in 2018, specializing in diversifying instruction to meet diverse learning needs. If you hate math, I'm your teacher. I have an extensive background in art, music, physics and many unusual life experiences that allow me to relate the many ways that math makes life more beautiful, more powerful, and more amazing! Math has a bad reputation but in my experience, the right attitude, the right teacher, and the right applications make all the difference. I teach solving systems of linear equations by racing remote controlled cars, quadratic equations with catapults, statistics with cookie stacking contests, and geometry with patterns and design. Mathematics is the language of the universe, and once you learn to speak it, you will begin to see it everywhere. Becoming better at math won't only raise your grades, either; learning how to use logic, solve problems, balance equations, draw angles and connect ideas will strengthen your mind in general and make you a better thinker overall. Like working out in a gym makes your whole body stronger, practicing mathematics will make your whole brain smarter and more efficient, whether or not you think you'll ever use it in "real life." You don't go to the gym to become an awesome leg-lifter; but strengthening your legs makes you better at everything that uses legs. Likewise, learning math strengthens your brain and makes you better at everything that uses it! I have a soft spot for people with math anxiety, learning challenges, behavioral issues, and diverse needs. There are many, many ways to teach and learn math, but most schools are limited to a few spread across a large class. In tutoring, I can tailor my teaching to meet your specific needs.

I am a Math teacher and I am conveniently located in the Bronx. I would like to teach math in New York
I viscerally feel that I will be effective in raising student achievement in the math field. Over the years teaching math, I have learnt to make it fun by making comparisons with the real world. Teaching math is more of an art rather than a science and making this art fun and people-friendly can make a difference in one’s perception of math whether the individual will detest or appreciate math.

One Stop Tutoring, offering multi-subject expertise in the Humanities, Social Sciences and Math
Hello, And thank you for reading my profile. I have extensive teaching and tutoring experience. I enjoy test prep as well as subject tutoring, the latter allowing the tutor and student to explore more in-depth certain topics. In fact, the focus of my research has been to present complex humanities and social scientific literature in an efficient, interdisciplinary and approachable way. This is the approach I bring to teaching and writing. It further allows me to connect with diverse students at any level, and to inspire and pique the interest of the student. Learning should be enjoyable, and enriching, and I have found that by drawing on different subjects and fields, I am able to keep students focused and more engaged. I am personable, professional, relaxed, and caring. Although individual, face-to-face, instruction and mathematics are highlighted as the preferred mode and subject, I am equally open to group instruction and diverse subjects, such as English, Literature and Composition, History (US, European, world).Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Carlin Sims Brooklyn, New York

Frequently Asked Questions

👉 How do I improve my problem-solving skills in Mathematics?

Improving problem-solving skills in Mathematics requires practice, patience, and persistence. Try solving problems on a regular basis, seeking out challenging problems, breaking down complex problems into smaller steps, and seeking help from a teacher or tutor when needed. Additionally, studying the solutions to similar problems and understanding the reasoning behind them can also be helpful.

👉 What is the best approach for studying and retaining mathematical concepts?

Improving problem-solving skills in Mathematics requires practice, patience, and persistence. Try solving problems on a regular basis, seeking out challenging problems, breaking down complex problems into smaller steps, and seeking help from a teacher or tutor when needed. Additionally, studying the solutions to similar problems and understanding the reasoning behind them can also be helpful.

👉 How can I prepare for mathematical exams and assessments?

Preparing for mathematical exams and assessments involves reviewing and practicing key concepts, solving sample problems, and seeking help from teachers or tutors. It is also important to manage time effectively during exams and to understand the format and type of questions that will be asked.

👉 What are the common mistakes made by students while learning Mathematics and how can they be avoided?

Common mistakes made by students while learning Mathematics include not paying attention to details, rushing through problems, not checking work, and not seeking help when needed. These mistakes can be avoided by being attentive, taking time to understand the problem, double-checking work, and asking for assistance when needed.

👉 How can I overcome a fear or dislike of Mathematics?

Overcoming a fear or dislike of Mathematics requires a change in mindset and attitude. This can be achieved by breaking down complex problems into smaller parts, seeking help from teachers or tutors, finding real-life applications of mathematical concepts, and focusing on understanding the concepts rather than just getting the right answer.

👉 What are the career opportunities for someone with a strong foundation in Mathematics?

A strong foundation in Mathematics can lead to a variety of career opportunities, including actuarial science, finance, data analysis, computer science, engineering, and education. Mathematics is also a valuable skill in many other fields, such as physics, economics, and statistics.

👉 What is coordinate geometry, and why is it important to learn?

Coordinate geometry is a branch of mathematics that studies geometric figures using a coordinate system. It involves the use of algebraic equations to represent geometric shapes and their properties.

Coordinate geometry is essential because it provides a way to connect algebraic and geometric concepts, making it easier to solve complex problems. As a result, it is widely used in fields such as engineering, Physics, and Computer Science, where geometric figures and their properties are crucial in solving real-world problems.

By learning coordinate geometry, students can develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are useful in many areas of life. It also provides a foundation for higher-level maths courses, such as Calculus and Linear algebra.

👉 How is coordinate geometry used in real life?

Coordinate geometry is used extensively in many fields of real-life applications. For instance, in engineering, it is used to design and build structures such as buildings, bridges, and roads. In addition, computer graphics are used to create and manipulate images and animations.

In physics, it is used to describe the motion of objects and the behaviour of physical systems. In navigation, it determines the position and direction of travel of ships, aeroplanes, and vehicles.

In finance, it is used to model financial data and analyze trends in the stock market. Coordinate geometry also plays a critical role in the field of data analysis and machine learning.

In short, coordinate geometry has many practical applications in various fields, and its importance cannot be overstated.

👉 What is the difference between geometry and coordinate geometry?

The primary difference between geometry and coordinate geometry is the way they represent geometric figures.

Geometry is the study of properties and relationships of figures in space, using only drawings and constructions. It relies on the principles of Euclidean geometry, which includes the analysis of points, lines, planes, and angles.

On the other hand, coordinate geometry represents geometric figures using a coordinate system, where each point is identified by its coordinates on an x-y plane. It involves the use of algebraic equations to represent geometric shapes and their properties.

In summary, while geometry uses drawings and constructions, coordinate geometry uses algebraic equations and coordinates to describe geometric figures.
