My name is Emily - I'm an MFA student in an interactive media arts program in Brooklyn with an MA in Theatre History and Criticism and undergraduate degrees in Comparative Literature and French. I am active in the arts scene in New York and in the broader academic scene in the states, having presented at conferences along the East Coast. I am an experienced writer in all types of different styles and am comfortable with both creative and professional content, so I would love to help with essays or creative writing assignments (I am weirdly excited by new projects of that kind). Additionally, I do SAT / GRE (etc.) verbal sections, as I scored well but understand how foreign these tests can feel at times. Born and raised in Illinois, Tariq Shah writes fiction and poetry. He holds a BA in English from DePaul University in Chicago, and an MFA in Creative Writing from St. Joseph's College, where he now teaches undergraduate English. From 2007-2009 he served in the US Peace Corps, during which time he taught 8th and 9th grade English in Moatize, Mozambique, and speaks Portuguese proficiently. An active percussionist for over 15 years, he performs regularly, and has extensive music performance, composition and education experience.

My name is Yvonne and I look forward to the opportunity to teach your child! I am a certified teacher who taught in the public school system for twenty years. I possess New York State certification in common branches (nursery through grade 6) and in the visual arts (grade K through grade 12). I also have a master’s degree in education. Although the majority of my teaching experience is at the elementary level, I have also taught middle and high school level students. I worked in a variety of capacities throughout my lengthy teaching career including, but not limited to, an elementary grade level class entitled, “Literacy Through the Visual Arts,” using an original curriculum that I created as an instructional guide. I worked with small groups of students which allowed for the use of intensive instructional strategies for reading and math. Another rewarding position I held was that of a NYC Dept. of Education Mentor for my school district. I provided training to first year teachers which included writing observation evaluations with improvement strategies, planning and conducting professional development workshops, and being a much needed supportive friend. I currently work as a professional tutor with students of varied grades and skill levels.
