I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Politics, Psychology, Law, and Economics from the University of Amsterdam, an interdisciplinary program that required extensive academic research and writing. I served as a teaching assistant for AP Language and Composition in high school back in the U.S., where I supported students in one-on-one sessions to refine their argumentation in academic essays and gain confidence in their writing. I have helped students achieve greater academic success and independent learning through effective learning techniques. This has led to 100% of students scoring either grade 9 or 8 at GCSE, A at A Level, and 90% of students being offered a place at the school of their choice. Currently, I am in my second year of Engineering studies at HKU, having completed a British school with International A-Level certification. I also specialize in teaching English phonics. Hello everybody! My name is Matthew Foster, or Teacher Matty. I have been teaching English in Thailand for 3 years to students of all ages. I am experienced in teaching English grammar and communication, Business English, and preparing students for tests. I hope you will consider me to teach you.

I am an experienced English teacher. I have worked both online and in classroom settings. Most of my experience is with students between P1 and P4. The subjects that I have taught are English, Maths, Science, Health, and Phonics. Recently, I started teaching some of the local children from my home in Koh Chang. These lessons have become quite popular, and what started out as 5 students has grown to 15 students. They enjoy the lessons and look forward to them every week. My teaching philosophy is to make my lessons fun, as I find students learn more when they are having fun. They also become more confident and happier expressing themselves in English. I like to incorporate media into my lessons, such as fun vocabulary video clips and PowerPoint presentations. I also use video and PowerPoint quizzes, where I encourage the students to call out the answers. This helps reinforce what they have learned in the lesson.

My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understanding and confidence in answering exam questions and being able to tackle new and unfamiliar problems. My philosophy is based on the idea that learning happens in an environment of mutual respect in which the student is encouraged to think and make new connections for themselves.
